Everything Pizza recipe

My favorite go-to recipe is a basic pizza dough that you can use for EVERYTHING!

2 cups organic white flour (can substitute up to half whole wheat)

1 tsp sea salt

1 tsp organic sugar

1 cup warm water (bath temperature)

2 1/2 tsp bread maker (also called instant) yeast (one package)

Mix it all together in a bowl large enough to let it double in size.   Use a spoon or stiff spatula to stir this because it is VERY sticky.   Cover it with a cloth or plate and let rise for about 1/2 hour.   Prepare a cookie sheet, pizza tray or rectangular pan by smearing oily stuff all over it – I use lard, butter or olive oil depending on the type of pizza I am making.   With very oily fingers (did I mention that the dough is REALLY sticky?) smoosh the dough to spread it out into your pan.   Cover the dough with you chosen toppings and pop it into a preheated 400 degree oven for about 20 minutes – until the dough turns golden and the toppings bubble.

Topping ideas:

  • breakfast pizza (pictured) with bacon, onion, tomatoes, green pepper, cheese and scrambled eggs
  • BBQ Chicken pizza with sliced leftover chicken, cheese, green pepper, onion, BBQ sauce
  • Apple dessert pizza with sliced apples, cinnamon, sugar and heavy cream
  • Pulled Pork pizza:  pulled pork, onions, mushrooms and cheese
  • Bruschetta sauce and cheese

What are your topping ideas?  I’d love to try them!
