It is such a miracle every time to witness new lives on the farm! Moo Moo, our first time momma pig is so calm and gentle with her babies (and with us). Did you know that sows will build a nest for their babies out of whatever material they can find. Moo Moo chewed up hay to make her nest. Piglets are born with their eyes open and ready to face the world. Momma pig does not dry them off or help them in any way (she’s busy producing the next piglet!). Shortly after birth they crawl over to momma’s milk rail for a drink. Every time before lying down a good sow will paw the nest to make sure there are no piglets underneath her then she VERY SLOOOOWLY lowers herself down.
